May 2010 - Of Rain, Rivers and the Rolling Sea
Water has always been magical in any form, from a tiny snowflake or a single raindrop to the vastness of the world’s oceans.
Having grown up by Maine’s mighty Kennebec River and the Atlantic Ocean, I’ve often witnessed the unique and natural drama displayed
by rainstorms, a rolling river and an ocean that continues to be the source of recreation, inspiration, and exploration.
I suppose it only seems natural that someday I would program a performance to explore the diversity of songs devoted to the miracle
of water. Join the Peoria Area Civic Chorale at Five Points Washington on May 1st and 2nd to enjoy songs such
as Down By the Riverside, Come Rain or Come Shine, The Navy Hymn, Red River Valley, Shenandoah,
Wade in the Water, Ol’ Man River, Paddlin’ Madelin’ Home, Up a Lazy River, Under the Sea,
The Seal Lullaby, Placido e il Mar (Calm is the Sea), I Gondolieri and many, many more.
Yours,
Joseph D. Henry, Artistic Director
