Joseph D. Henry, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Peoria Area Civic Chorale,
is also a Professor of Music at Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois where he has
served as the Director of Choral Activities and the Coordinator of the Music Education
program since 1991. He has degrees in music education and choral conducting from the
University of Maine, University of Southern Maine, and the University of
Missouri – Kansas City. He has studied conducting with Gerard Chamberland,
Dennis K. Cox, Larry Rachleff, Gary Hill, and Eph Ehly. Dr. Henry received a
Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the Peoria Symphony Orchestra’s Hall
of Fame in 2006. Dr. Henry has served as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and
clinician at choral festivals, clinics, and music conventions throughout
the United States. Under his direction, choirs have sung for MENC, ACDA, and
the National-General Assembly of Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ). In
addition, Dr. Henry’s choral ensembles have also performed in Austria, Canada, Germany,
Ireland, Italy, and Switzerland.
